5 Ideas for Garden Design in 2023

With all the hardship in 2020 and 2021 came a positive – we were forced to spend more time in our gardens! Even though we are now allowed out and about again, many of us have discovered the joy of staying home in our secluded section of paradise. Starting a garden from scratch may seem daunting, but here at Fraser James Blinds, we’ve got you covered with tons of great ideas for any type of garden.

5 Ideas for Garden Design in 2023

Create an Outdoor Living Space Your Neighbours Will Be Jealous Of

Outdoor Pergola Area Nottingham

Outdoor living spaces are all the rage, and it’s clear why. Creating an outdoor lounge area is a clever way to enhance both your indoor and outdoor garden space at the same time.

Whether you have a large patio to play with, a tiny balcony or even just a courtyard garden, there is so much you can do to blend a little of the indoors, out!

First, you need to think about the purpose. Will your outside living space be an adults-only spot, or will it be a kid’s play area? Is it a space to relax and unwind in, or will it typically be used for entertaining friends and family?

Top Tip: Don’t forget to consider the views your property has to offer and which way the sun travels around your garden, as this will help you decide where best to place your furniture.

Next, think about the theme of your outdoor living space. First, you’ll need to choose your colour palette. This should reflect the setting you want to create. For example, soft, muted colours create a peaceful and relaxing aesthetic, whilst bold colours will help the space look party-ready.

We’d also recommend using similar furniture and accessories as your indoor living space, such as rugs, garden sofas, and cushions to keep continuity between the two.

Now, what is your outdoor living space missing? An awning!

Create Garden Shade with An Attractive Awning

Weinor Awning for Garden

As much as we all love the sun, sometimes you need a break from direct rays while still being outside. Our favourite kinds of garden ideas are those which add a solution to our outdoor space.

An awning makes more of your home more useable. Under an awning, you can place a deck, tables, chairs, and an entire patio area if you desire! Otherwise, this space might go unused.

To save space on having a sizeable parasol on the garden decking or patio area, not to mention the storage for out-of-season months, consider a smart awning. Having an awning attached to the rear exterior wall allows you to have a retractable source of shade as and when you need it – and in a matter of minutes.

Many of the modern designs are now electrical, making the job even easier. The electric patio awnings that we offer here at Fraser James Blinds bear all the quality features of our traditional awnings, yet they’re motorised. This means that you no longer need to scramble to roll up your awning if the weather turns bad – just one click and you can head back inside. Simple.

If that didn’t impress you enough, the awnings we offer here at FJB can be outfitted with many useful and attractive accessories, including:

  • Wind sensors – offering automated reactions to changing wind conditions.
  • Heating – to enhance the comfort of your patio area when there’s a chill in the air.
  • Lighting – for evening or night-time gatherings.
  • Valances – adding extra visual appeal to your patio.

Set up a Picture-Perfect Pergola

Weinor Pergola

Functional as well as stylish, pergolas are also a great option for your garden. A pergola is ideal for instantly framing and defining a space. A relatively easy addition to any decking or garden, pergolas create the look and feel of an outdoor room while adding a distinct architectural element.

Its main purpose is to provide shade as well as offering cool relief on hot days. But pergolas can also give your garden a well-needed design upgrade.

Pergolas are great for hanging plants. If your garden is not very spacious, perhaps consider hanging or climbing plants on your pergola, such as ivy, or honeysuckle. Bellissimo!

If you’re concerned about your privacy also, for example, if your garden is overlooked by other houses, then a pergola is a perfect option for you. Pergolas are generally known for their open-air construction, but there are unique pergola options such as blinds or drapes that can offer a sense of separation and privacy from the outside world.

If you’re ready to go in for the full shebang outdoors living paradise, combine a pergola with a dreamy outdoor kitchen area or a full alfresco dining setup.

If you’ve got it, flaunt it!

Invest in Fabulous, Weatherproof Furniture

5 Ideas for Garden Design in 2022

From family get-togethers and alfresco evening dining to a solitary mid-morning coffee outdoors, our gardens must work hard to accommodate all our needs. The type of outdoor furniture we choose is key to making any outdoor space more usable.

Of course, the best garden furniture isn’t just for looks – it will transform how you use your patio. And with outdoor living being all the rage right now, we all want to make the very most of our gardens, all year round.

We’d recommend garden furniture that is made from weave or metal as it is very low maintenance and can be left outside all year! For inspiration, head down to your local B&M or Home Bargains to find yourself some steals!

If you are working with a small space, look for outdoor furniture which has space-saving features such as collapsible chairs or furniture which can be stored inside itself.

Top Tip: ALWAYS check when purchasing, if any part of your furniture needs to be stored indoors when not in use. An example could be soft furnishings which can withstand some weather conditions but should be kept out of heavy rain.
